If God’s Got This, Then Why Do I Doubt?

“Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God.” Romans 4:20 (NLT)
As everyone at church sang about God’s faithfulness and provision, I sat alone in the service, my faith faltering. Why does this season feel saturated with scarcity?
In marriage and mothering, money and ministry, from my social media scroll to the Sunday-morning sanctuary, I came up short. I was leading with “less than” in my roles as mother, wife, daughter, friend, and even as God's child. But He is a God of provision.
We see this clearly in the book of Genesis, where God chose Abraham to partner with Him in blessing all nations. What Abraham and his wife wanted most was a son, and after years of waiting, God miraculously gave them Isaac in their old age. But He didn't just provide what they longed for — He gave them more than they could imagine, promising descendants as numerous as the stars.
Then God tested Abraham’s faith, asking him to sacrifice his beloved son.
This shocking instruction seemed to defy all logic. Why would a good God promise and plan the future around the extraordinary gift of Isaac but then tell Abraham to kill him? Abraham couldn’t reconcile these two things. Yet he obeyed God anyway.
Romans 4:20 says, "Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God.”
Abraham didn’t just know about God; he had an intimate relationship with the Lord and had seen Him do the impossible in his life. As a result, “Abraham reasoned that if Isaac died, God was able to bring him back to life again” (Hebrews 11:19, NLT).
Ultimately, God provided a ram for sacrifice in place of Isaac, and Abraham named the place “Yahweh-Yireh (which means ‘the LORD will provide’)” (Genesis 22:14, NLT). This could also be translated as “the LORD will see to it.” God sees the past, present, and future; He anticipates and provides everything His people need.
This trial proved Abraham’s faith and God’s faithfulness. Additionally, it fortified the faith of Isaac and eventually all of Israel as they heard about their God, Yahweh-Yireh.
What if our trials, too, are opportunities to trust, experience, and see more of God so we can know Him better? To surrender to the One who wants to provide for us in unbelievable ways? To fortify the faith of others?
Whatever seemingly impossible situation has you knotted up and needing God … He wants to see to it.
Even if we lack faith itself, God wants to provide it as well. We can pray like the father who asked Jesus for healing in Mark 9:24, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!” (NLT).
Let’s expect the unexpected with God. When we step out in faith, He runs toward us, revealing Himself in ways we could never imagine.
Lord, help me have unwavering faith in Your promised provision. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
