Invisible Qualities
 By Judy Fussell

Now, faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

The definition of invisible is: unable to be seen. There are many invisible forces in daily life that our human eye cannot perceive. Even though the sources are unseen, the effects of their presence are obvious. Some examples are gravity, wind, and oxygen.

The Bible is a revelation from God, the unseen creator of heaven, earth and all mankind. It provides a clear description of what God is like and what is important to Him. Romans 1:20 says, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so they are without excuse.” Even though we are unable to see God Himself, the effects of His glory and might are evident.

Presently our world is at war with an evil, invisible enemy.  It invades the body, wreaks havoc and spreads. There is no immunity, and this virus plays no favorites.  Our foundations seem shaky as this pandemic threatens physical and mental health. It has devastated jobs, the economy and our established patterns of daily life.

God’s word, however, warns of a much greater invisible threat. The devastation from this enemy not only brings physical but spiritual death as well. This covert, unseen force seeks to steal, kill and destroy whomever he may. Jesus said of Satan, “He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in truth because there is no truth in him…” (John 8:44) Just like Covid-19 has affected the planet, Revelation 12:17 calls Satan the deceiver of the whole world. Jesus also said, “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather be afraid of the One who can destroy both body and soul in hell.” (Matthew 10:28)

For Covid-19, there isn’t a remedy available right now. Scientists and doctors are working long and hard to eliminate this peril and to save lives from its consequences. Still, there is good news. Christ defeated the enemy of man’s soul at the cross. Jesus says, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.”

Jesus took the consequences of SIN, a deadly virus infecting the world, to become the cure.  He suffered ravaging physical devastation in His body that all mankind might live. He played no favorites. Eternal life is freely offered to all who choose Christ. He is God’s remedy saving us from the curse of death.

If you have never opened your heart to Christ’s love and forgiveness, this is the time to accept His sacrifice for your sin and be forgiven. He makes all things new… even a hardened, sinful heart.

Even though Satan has no power over a Christian’s eternal destination, he delights in battle. His weapons are lies, fear, worry and his target is the mind. Our defense against these attacks is a daily dose of the inspired Word of God. Dwell there and rest. Do not let your heart be unsettled in these troubled days.

Our Hope for such a time as this is found in Christ who is far greater than any virus threatening our way of life. “He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.” (Isaiah 33:6) This is a time to seek Him. He will be found when you seek Him with all your heart!

Ask God to open your heart that you might have eyes to see and ears to hear His voice. Dive into His word and allow His transforming truth to penetrate your soul!

These times are frightening, Lord. Headlines daily deliver troubling news. If we dwell there, Father, we will lose all hope. Thank You for Your protection and the promises we have in Your word. Nothing can separate us from Your love and the victory achieved by Christ at the cross. He is our hope and ever present help in trouble. Thank You, Father. We have no need to fear. You will never leave nor forsake Your own!
