“The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus and saw some of his disciples eating food with hands that were “unclean”, that is, unwashed”. –Mark 7:1-2
Hypocrisy can contaminate our hearts. Criticizing others for doing things differently is cause for a power-washing in our hearts. In the verse above, the Pharisees criticized Jesus’ disciples for not washing their hands according to their own ways. The Pharisees were considered holy people in that day, but their value of tradition over relationship with God became their own hindrance.
Are you a Pharisee or are you a disciple? When you look at others, do you look at them through the eyes of Jesus or through your own eyes? We are all natural-born sinners, but have you allowed your heart to be power-washed by the love and grace of Christ? If you have a relationship with Jesus Christ, then His nature needs to take over your nature. It all starts with the heart. Give Him your heart completely and let Him do the cleansing.
“How can you say to your brother ‘let me take the speck out of your eye”, when all the time there is a plank in your own eye”. -Matt. 7:4
Pray something like this: “Lord, thank you for your son, Jesus, who was and is the perfect example of love. Please forgive me for being a hypocrite. Cleanse my heart and help me to walk in love and grace towards others.
