Read: James 1

Key Verse: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds.” - James 1:2

What have been the three most difficult trials you have endured? Can you name one good thing that resulted in each of those situations? How can you have real joy in the middle of the storms of life? This verse is not a commandment telling you to put on a fake smile when things get tough. It is also not a blanket statement saying there will not be deep disappointment and sadness.

The hope in this verse is that while the outside conditions may be brutal, God is doing an internal work in your heart and character. The friction you are experiencing is actually a tool that the Master will use to develop maturity and wholeness in you. You can grow stronger in your weakness and more like Jesus because of the challenges you are facing. Have confidence that God will use the difficulty to refine you in beautiful ways.
