Read: Obadiah 1

Key Verse: “The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks and make your home on the heights, you who say to yourself: Who can bring me down to the ground?” - Obadiah 1:3

Individual people as well as nations can build up a false fortress. Their sense of security is wrapped up in their pride and possessions. It will never last! Obadiah’s name means: a servant or worshipper of the Lord. He is addressing the Edomites and holding them accountable. Edom was located literally up in the mountains and they felt untouchable in their location. They relied on themselves and their position instead of the Lord. It is dangerous to assume you are invincible or self-reliant.

Pride always deceives. God gives land, blessings, abilities, opportunities, and wisdom, but people take credit for the gifts and ignore the Giver. God’s judgment would reach them up in their lofty rocks and forts. God brought them down to earth and humbled them. Are you embracing pride because of the success the Lord has given you? Are you putting your security in people or possessions instead of the Lord? How can you humble yourself before the Lord disciplines you? God blesses anyone who acknowledges Him and rejects pride.
