THE DESERT

Read: Psalm 136

Key Verse: “To Him who led His people through the desert, His love endures forever.” - Psalm 136:16

Have you ever experienced a season of your life when it felt like you were in the desert? There are not many resources in the desert. The waters of refreshment are scarce. The sweltering heat saps your energy. It can be lonely traveling through a desert. Dangerous snacks come near to you. The devil tempted Jesus three times in the desert. What temptations are you facing today?

Some Christians will trust God in every setting except the desert. Do you try to make it through the dry and disappointing times of your life in your own strength? God is a desert expert. The Israelites spent 40 years wandering in the desert because they refused to believe God’s promises. Do not spend extra time in the desert unless it is a church retreat with three-wheelers! The desert represents the testing of your faith before you can enter the promised land of abundance. The Israelites learned that when the ground is extremely dry, keep your eyes on God’s cloud and presence in the sky: Look up often!
