Key Verse: “Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way.” - Proverbs 4:15
How are you doing in the battle against temptation? There are paths in life that are destructive yet alluring. They glisten and sparkle but lead to despair and emptiness. How can you overcome such misleading traps? One of the best approaches is avoidance. If you can keep a distance and prevent the initial access, you are well on your way to purity and integrity.
Here are some specific examples: 1) Find blockers for your computer as you stay away from pornography. 2) Do not drive home passing the bars or strip clubs; find a different route. 3) If you know your friends are calling you to invite you to sin with them, decline the invitation. 4) If your ‘friends’ constantly pull you into trouble, make some real friends. 5) If you get into debt and become materialistic when you shop, set a budget and have an accountability partner. 6) When gossip begins, redirect the conversation, quickly change the subject, or just step out of the room. The key with most temptations is to find an exit very early and avoid the danger areas where you stumble. You will experience more freedom and closeness to God!
