Read: Psalm 71

Key Verse: “Do not cast me away when I am old; do not forsake me when my strength is gone.” - Psalm 71:9

A team of people from our church conduct Sunday afternoon services every week in two convalescent hospitals. The time includes reading the Bible, praying with residents, caring for people’s needs, listening, teaching, laughing, and enjoying the fellowship together. In addition to physical pain, many seniors suffer from loneliness. No one ever comes to visit them or makes them feel special. Across our country, instead of being shown respect and honor, elderly people are ignored, taken advantage of, and treated like second-class citizens.

The psalmist turns to God for comfort and companionship. God does care for physically frail and forsaken people who live in homes, hospitals, and even on the streets. You can show God’s love by writing, calling, or visiting someone who you know is elderly and in pain. A card, a conversation, a compliment, or a compassionate prayer can strengthen someone for the entire month. Let someone know that they are not forsaken but deeply loved.
