Read: Ezra 2

Key Verse: “When thy arrived at the house of the Lord in Jerusalem, some of the heads of the families gave freewill offerings toward the rebuilding of the house of God on its site.” - Ezra 2:68

When was the last time you gave a substantial gift because of the joy in your heart? Have you ever set aside a substantial gift for God’s work? As God’s people returned from exile in Babylon, some of them gave a freewill offering to the Lord. Maybe some of the people were stingy, or selfish, or fearful, or felt like their treasures belonged to them. In any case, only some joyfully offered gifts to God.

What needs do you see that you could help make a difference? As the people settled in their towns, there was work to be done to restore the temple. The Bible says that they gave according to their ability. The principle in Scripture is proportionate giving and equal sacrifice. Every gift is significant and participation is important. It is through the generosity of the people that the work on the temple could begin.  How could your generosity make a difference in meeting a tangible need?
