Read: Micah 6

Key Verse: “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” - Micah 6:8

During Micah’s life, many people were religious but it was very unhealthy. There was fasting and taking advantage of other people. There were sacrifices and self-righteousness. There were prayers being made and a rebellious lifestyle during the rest of the week. The people falsely thought that if they fast, pray, and make some sacrifices they have successfully completed their spiritual checklist. Do you ever try to reduce your walk with God to a very small checklist? It gives the illusion of accomplishment, control, and spiritual maturity.

God pointed out, through Micah, that justice was missing in their land. There was a lack of mercy in relationships, and pride was in their hearts not humility. Do you walk with resentment or kindness? Are you quick to make changes that honor God? Do the people who spend time with you describe you as being very loving? God was painting the picture to the people of a continuous way of living, not a small checklist of outward rituals. A lifestyle is greater than a few compartmentalized practices. What can be done is more important than what can be given up. What you stand for is more important than what you are against. Spend time now contemplating this verse and how God is asking you to live.
