A Different Perspective - April 16

Faith and Finances

by Berni Dymet

>Exodus 25:1,2 The LORD said to Moses: Tell the Israelites to take for me an offering; from all whose hearts prompt them to give you shall receive the offering for me.

When you hear some preacher mention God and gold, miracles and money in the one breath - well, most of us want to run a mile.

And sure - there's the odd teleevangelist out there sheering the flock to support an outrageous lifestyle. Not all of them of course.

So the warning bells ring loud and strong, when it comes to ministry and money.

So - would it surprise you then to discover a command from God in the Bible for Moses to go fundraising? Well it's there - Exodus Chapter 25.

God tells Moses to take up an offering for His work from His people - from all whose hearts prompt them to give.

So - does the God of the universe really need my money? Does He really need your money? Not really, so why then? Well - here's the thing.  Usually He asks His people to fund His work. Not so much because He's sweating on our money … what He really wants is our hearts.

Well … we know that in theory and yet, too many of those who believe in Jesus, somehow don’t quite seem to manage to lay hold of God’s promises in practice. How exactly do you live in the promises of God? Well, that’s what our latest Life Application Booklet is all about: It’s Time to Take the Promised Land.
