A Different Perspective - March 7

God's Ideal for Thee and Me
by Berni Dymet

Gen. 2:15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it.

Wouldn't it be great if we could live out our lives in a tropical paradise, a five-star resort, where it never rains.  We get up in the morning. Have breakfast. Wander down to the beach - lie in the shade, go swimming … waiters to serve us the pina coladas and bring lunch.

Then we'd wander up for dinner. That'd be the life!!!

I guess that's what the garden of Eden was like: A perfect paradise. Not a worry in the world …  endless R&R.

Man - that would be the life!

And that's why I was so shocked when I read Genesis, Chapter 2, verse 15 … have a listen:

The LORD God took the man, Adam, and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it.

Adam had a job: to till and to keep the garden. See, it turns out that God's ideal plan for us was not only peace all around, not only a perfect relationship with Him. God's ideal plan for us … includes work.
