My Redeemer Lives

by Berni Dymet

Job 19:25 For I know that my Redeemer lives, and that at the last he will stand upon the earth;

I'm not sure if you've ever had the chance to read the story of Job in the Old Testament, but it's one I go back to again and again, because it's a sobering story. It's about the realities of life.

Job is one of the good guys, honoring God in everything. And yet God lets the devil attack him, losing everything except his life. His friends gather around and tell him, "Well Job you must have done something bad for God to do this to you." With friends like that who needs enemies?

Job cries out to God, over and over again. He says, "God, how long are you going to let this happen? Why are you doing this? It's not fair". But in the middle of one of his laments, he comes to this conclusion….

I know that my Redeemer lives - and that at the last, he will stand on this earth and after my skin's been destroyed and my flesh is gone, I will see God.

You see for Job, in the midst of all of the troubles of this world, he knew his Redeemer lives.
