Painting the Wall
by Berni Dymet

Heb. 4:12 Indeed, the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

I live in an old house built in the 1890's.  And recently I've had some painters in.  Now it was a boarding house for a few years… so you can imagine the bumps and knocks and holes in the walls.

What amazed me was how long it took to prepare the surfaces for painting.  The filling and sanding took quite a few days.  And then, the painting at the end - took almost no time at all.  Even though the paint provided the final finish, it's the preparation under the surface that made the final finish what it is today.

And it's the same in our lives too I think.  We live in a world that focuses on the glossy exterior.  The success that people can see.  But God - God judges us not by looking on the outside - He sees our hearts.

And He's prepared to take the time to get rid of the bumps and knocks and holes under the surface to make that final finish everything He knows it can be.
