General Bible Search Preferences

Bible Translation

This is the default translation that is used when you search the Bible. Of course, you can change your translation each time you search; however, if you plan on always using one translation, you may set it below and we’ll remember it every time you search the Bible.

Please note that changing this will NOT change the translation in which you receive your Daily Bible Verse emails. To change your Daily Bible Verse translation, please see the Daily Bible Verse Email page.

English

Bible Passage Search Preferences

Verse Format

This selects the layout of the Bible verses when viewing a Bible passage. Paragraphs will show the verses grouped together with logical paragraph breaks. One Verse Per Line will show each verse on it’s own line; in essence, each verse becomes it’s own paragraph.

Multi-Translation Layout

This selects the layout of the page when displaying multiple translations of the same passage. Parallel places two translations of the same passage side by side making comparing each translation easy; each translation, therefore, takes up half the width of the screen. Sequential displays each translation beneath the previous one with each translation the full width of the screen.

Red Letter

Some translations, such as the American Standard Version, the King James Version, and the World English Bible, place the words of Christ in red. For those translations, you may toggle this feature On or Off below.

Bible Word Search Preferences

Match Type

This selects how we decide if a verse is a “match” for a particular word when searching the Bible. Beginning Of Each Word matchs any verse that contains a word that begins with the same letters as the word you are searching for. For example, a search for love, would also return verses containing loved and loves. Exact Word Only matchs only verses that contain the exact word you are searching for. For example, a search for love will return only verses that contain the word love, but will not return verses containing loves or loved unless they contain the exact word love.

Results Per Page

This selects how many verses we will show on each page of results for the Bible Word Search. Fewer verses per page means a faster loading time, but it may also mean that you might have to scroll through more pages.

Display Verse Context

If set to Yes, then the surrounding verses will be displayed along with each verse that matches your Bible Word Search. No means that only the verse itself will be shown. (Please note that this setting effects only the Bible Word Search, not the Bible Passage Search.)

Display Verse Footnotes

When performing a Bible Word Search, if this is set to Yes, then each verse’s footnotes will be displayed immediately below the verse itself. If No is selected, then any footnotes in the verse will be disregarded and only the verse itself will be shown. (Please note that this setting effects only the Bible Word Search, not the Bible Passage Search. Also note that some translations don’t have footnotes.)
