⁷ So he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah, because of the contention of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying, "Is the Lord among us or not?"

⁷ And he called the place Massah[1] and Meribah[2] because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the Lord saying, "Is the Lord among us or not?"

⁷ He named the place Massah (Testing-Place) and Meribah (Quarreling) because of the quarreling of the Israelites and because of their testing of God when they said, "Is God here with us, or not?"
