“You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
This is harsh language, isn’t it? It’s even more shocking because Jesus is speaking not to recognized public sinners, not to the blatantly immoral people of His day, but to the religious leaders. Jesus was speaking to people with all the trappings of religion—they were making all the right sacrifices, obeying the rules, celebrating the feasts and festivals. Yet Jesus said, “You are of your father, the devil, because you are liars.” This very starkly identifies a point of great clarity in Scripture: It doesn’t matter where we are sitting on the weekend. When we choose anything less than the truth, we are cooperating with Satan. And when we choose the truth, we are cooperating with the Spirit of God.
Heavenly Father, I know that You are not only a God of truth, You are Truth. I want to cooperate with the truth. Show me places in my life where I have been skating the truth––in my relationships, business, financing, etc. I yield to Your truth and ask for Your help. In Jesus’ name, amen.
