Parenting by Design - September 22

As parents, spurring our children on towards love and good deeds is a powerful way to encourage spiritual growth and development, just as the Bible instructs us to "spur one another on toward love and good deeds." By taking the time to listen, watch, and show interest in their lives, we can communicate our care and support, reflecting Christ's role in their life.

Encouragement

Heb 10:24:  "And Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds" (NIV).

As parents, it's our joy to spur our children on in love and good deeds.  We often use words, but feel limited in how much we can say.

Christ takes time to know us, and we can encourage our children in the same way.  Listen to them, and let them know you hear.  Watch them, and show them you understand.  Simple observations will communicate you care such as, "It seems like you are spending a lot of time studying about cars lately.  What have you learned so far?" or, "It looked like you were having a lot of fun at the soccer game today.  What did you enjoy about it?"

Encourage your kids by getting to know them.  Your love can help spur on good deeds, and reflect Christ's role in their life!
