Key Verse: “There, by the Ahava Canal, I proclaimed a fast, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and ask Him for a safe journey for us and our children, with all our possessions.” - Ezra 8:21

How often do you fast? January is an exciting time in our church, because we set aside the first month of each year to fast and seek God. Each person chooses the type and duration of their fast. Have you ever been part of a community that is all fasting at the same time? It is a powerful experience! Consider asking your pastor to begin a church-wide fast.

When you fast, choose a specific reason why you are going without food. Spend additional time in God’s Word and in prayer. In God’s economy, sometimes less is more. It is humbling to have an empty stomach, but it is spiritually uplifting to let God know that you are sincerely pursuing Him! Consult a physician before you begin a fast. It should be safe and at the same time not just business as usual. What are some specific situations and requests that you can lift up to God as you fast? Take this important step forward in your faith!
