Faith or Sight? - From His Heart - Week of May 1

FAITH OR SIGHT?

"But My servant Caleb, because he has had a different spirit and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land which he entered, and his descendants shall take possession of it."-  Numbers 14:21

Did you know there is a spirit of faith and a spirit of unbelief?  People either walk by faith or walk by sight.  They are either governed by the fear of adverse circumstances, or they are governed by faith in the rock solid Word of God.

Now the Bible is clear that most people in our world walk by sight.  Obviously, this assertion is true of unbelievers, but it is also true of many Christians.  These folks make decisions and choices based on the external conditions confronting them.  The sad truth is this:  they fail to factor God into the equation.  Could that be said of you?

NOT CALEB

Caleb was a man with a different spirit than the average Israelite divinely delivered from Egypt.  He was one who lived by what God said, not by what he saw.  When he went with the other eleven spies to scope out the Promised Land, he saw a great opportunity for God to work miracles and give His people the land flowing with milk and honey, the land He had promised them.  All the other spies, save Joshua, didn't believe God's Word.  All they could see were the giants of the land and the unfavorable circumstances that obviously prevented them from being victorious.

WHAT DO YOU SEE?

In your life, what do you see?  Do you see the giants of opposition or the promises of God?  Jesus said, “If you believe, you will see the glory of God” (John 11:40).  But, if you don't believe, you won’t see His glory.  You will simply follow in the faithless footsteps of the children of Israel.  You will find yourself wandering in the wilderness, when you could have been enjoying the Promised Land.

Caleb is a strong reminder that you and I can choose to walk by faith.  We can choose a different spirit--one that believes God in spite of the negative circumstances around us.  Remember, nothing is too difficult for Him.  The God who can part the Red Sea, rain bread down from heaven, and bring water out of a rock, that same God can do miracles in your life IF, IF, IF you will only trust Him and follow Him fully.

REFLECTION

Take time right now to focus on the glory and power of Almighty God.  Put your problems into perspective:  truly they are smaller than a pimple on a flea when compared to the King of Glory.  There is nothing He cannot do!  Trust Him with every battle you face.  He will bring blessings in abundance for those who, like Caleb, see God as God.
