How to Bring Freedom to the Imprisoned

July 26

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed…"

-Luke 4:18

Years ago during the first Gulf War, an Iraqi American traveled from Chicago to Iraq to visit his mother. Through a series of circumstances, he was forced to fight in Saddam Hussein’s army. So they put a uniform on him and stuck him in a foxhole.

As the war went on, this man knew the American troops were advancing. And when the soldiers came upon this fellow, he held up his Chicago Cubs baseball cap and began shouting, “I’ve been waiting for you. I’m on your side. Get me out of here!”

I wonder how many people out in the enemy territory of the world are waiting for the same thing. They know the way of the world isn’t right and they’re just waiting for someone to come liberate them from their current path and show them a better way.

This is the case for many, many people today. Yet sadly, Christians are often hesitant to share the liberating message of Jesus even though so many truly want to hear it. Don’t forget those who haven’t heard. Share the life-giving news of Christ and help set the captives free!
