Practice What You Preach

“Then Jesus said to the crowds and to His disciples: ‘The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.’” Matthew 23:1-3

THINK

We’ve all been hypocrites before. We’ve done one thing while we’ve said another. It’s something we can easily point out in others, but we have a hard time admitting it in our own lives. But the truth is, our hypocrisy is evident to others when it is present in our lives. And there are few things that are as detrimental to our faith walk as hypocrisy.

The truth is that we may be the only example of Jesus that people see. And if we live a life of hypocrisy; if we, like the Pharisees, do not practice what we preach, we become a hindrance to the gospel of Jesus rather than a help. Make sure you practice what you preach!

PRAY

Pray for God to reveal any hypocrisy in your life. Ask Him to forgive you for not living the way He has called you to live. And pray for opportunities to be a true, positive influence in the lives of others.

ACT

On a small card, write down one area in your life where you are hypocritical. Work today on overcoming that hypocrisy and living a life of authenticity in that specific area. Carry the card with you as a reminder.
