17 And it cometh to pass, in the twenty and seventh year, in the first 'month', in the first of the month, hath a word of Jehovah been unto me, saying: 18 'Son of man, Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, Hath caused his force to serve a great service against Tyre, Every head 'is' bald—every shoulder peeled, And reward he had none, nor his force, out of Tyre, For the service that he served against it. 19 Therefore, thus said the Lord Jehovah, Lo, I am giving to Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon the land of Egypt, And he hath taken away its store, And hath taken its spoil, and taken its prey, And it hath been a reward to his force. 20 His wage for which he laboured I have given to him, The land of Egypt—in that they wrought for Me, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah. 21 In that day I cause to shoot up a horn to the house of Israel, And to thee I give an opening of the mouth in their midst, And they have known that I 'am' Jehovah!'

Matthew Henry's Commentary on Ezekiel 29:17-21

Commentary on Ezekiel 29:17-21

(Read Ezekiel 29:17-21)

The besiegers of Tyre obtained little plunder. But when God employs ambitious or covetous men, he will recompense them according to the desires of their hearts; for every man shall have his reward. God had mercy in store for the house of Israel soon after. The history of nations best explains ancient prophecies. All events fulfil the Scriptures. Thus, in the deepest scenes of adversity, the Lord sows the seed of our future prosperity. Happy are those who desire his favour, grace, and image; they will delight in his service, and not covet any earthly recompence; and the blessings they have chosen shall be sure to them for ever.
