He’s a Jolly Good Fellow?
“The crowd rose up together against them, and the chief magistrates tore their robes off them and proceeded to order them to be beaten with rods.” (Acts 16:22, NASB95)
One of the most offensive comments ever given to me was from a man who said "If God's hand was on your ministry, wouldn't you be seeing success?" Not only was the statement Biblical stupidity, but it honored man's success as a measure of God's handiwork.
In Acts 16:22, Paul and Silas find themselves in prison, striped and beaten because they were doing the Lord's work. Man does not always meet the Word of the Lord, nor the messenger, with applause and honor. Sometimes the response is anything but success in the eyes of man. God, however, doesn't give a plugged nickel for the opinion of men!
