Know, Serve, Seek
Dr. Randy White
“As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever." (1 Chronicles 28:9, NASB95)
Solomon was given solemn instruction to know God, serve God, and seek God. The great news for him and is for us is that “if you seek Him, He will let you find Him.”
Consider that fact for a moment. God, who is invisible, has determined to “let you find Him” if you will seek Him. How shameful it is, then, that so many live so long without experiencing Him in their lives. The burden of responsibility is on us. In Romans 1 we are told that God has made Himself available to the extent that we are “without excuse” in knowing Him.
What of those who do not know how to seek Him? This Scripture says that “the Lord searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts.” This means that God compensates for an empty mind…but not for a closed mind! When our mind is lacking knowledge, God will freely give it. When our mind is lacking desire, God will withhold any further revelation.
If God were to reveal the thoughts of your heart today, would you be proud? Would He reveal a heart that longed to know and serve God, or a heart that was consumed with the worries of this world and the desire for other things?
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be satisfied!”
