As Peter concludes his letter, he gives instruction on leading paired with warnings of spiritual warfare and encouragement to stand firm in our faith. I was particularly drawn to verse 7, because lately it seems like many people I know are struggling with anxiety, fear and worry, and because of my own history with anxiety (there was a season in my life where anxiety consumed and crippled me, and I can still turn there if I'm not careful). So the message of verse 7 moved me strongly today. I looked it up in several versions and have included two of them here.
"Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you." (NLT)
". . .casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you." (ESV)
Whatever you're going through today--GOD CARES FOR YOU! We can lose sight of this beautiful truth when we're battling with worry, fear and anxiety. So let's take a deep breath and together give over to God whatever is troubling us. God wants us to give Him ALL of our burdens, and He wants us to have an ongoing candid discussion with Him. That means giving over to God every single situation that causes us to worry, every feeling of fear that grips our heart, every anxious thought that enters, occupies and then tries to control our mind.
What is it that you need to "cast away" and give over to God today? What encouragement did you draw from 1 Peter 5:7? Tami
