The godly people in the land are my true heroes! I take pleasure in them! (Psalms 16:3).
This tribute is included because I am inspired by committed Christian lay men and women deeply involved with helping to fulfill the Great Commission. I trust my late friend will inspire you.
L. Allen Morris, a great and godly man, recently graduated to his heavenly home. Allen was a World War II veteran and one of America's leading businessmen. He was also on the Campus Crusade for Christ Board of Directors for almost 30 years. He was so highly esteemed in the community that the editorial board of the Miami Herald made the following observation:
"L. Allen Morris loved to save souls as well as make land deals -- he was grounded in the old-fashioned virtues which had shaped him. Mr. Morris was a dedicated Christian evangelist. He was also dedicated to civic service. The Orange Bowl Committee, Red Cross, Goodwill Industries, a veritable who's who of worthy organizations benefited from his leadership. L. Allen Morris' deep commitment to God, family, hard work, and community is an inspiring tribute to the enduring virtues he lived by. Over a 25-year period he built approximately 70 major buildings representing over $850 million."
A beautiful brochure was given to everyone who attended the services in both Atlanta and Miami. It contained a brief biography of Mr. Morris with the "Would You Like to Know God Personally?" version of the Four Spiritual Laws and a powerful quote from him: "I feel very responsible for telling my friends and acquaintances about Christ. When people accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, they have abundant life here on earth, and life everlasting in heaven when they die. If they don't accept Jesus, they are separated from God for all eternity. I believe what the Scripture says and that is why I am so anxious for my friends to accept Christ as Lord."
My relationship with Allen and his wife, Ida, and their godly family began some 40 years ago when I was speaking at a leadership conference in Miami. Because of Allen Morris' tremendous intellectual and business acumen, as well as spiritual insight, he has made a powerful contribution to many important decisions that affect Campus Crusade through the years. I thank God for him.
Yours for fulfilling the Great Commission each year until our Lord returns,
