Memorial Day

May 29

Gravestones

Have you ever visited a military cemetery? All burial places are holy and a little spooky, but veterans’ cemeteries are profoundly moving: row upon row of identical, small, white stone markers, each with a terse legend of the person’s name, dates, and military unit.

Some of the bodies lying there were shot up badly; many of the dead died of disease; some graves contain only fragments. All those stones mark the final resting places of fallen warriors; all are heroes to their countrymen. All of those deaths left behind sad and grieving families.

Would you be willing to take a little bit of time on Memorial Day to do two things? One is to thank God for the successful outcomes of the sacrifices that these graves represent. Our country is a free and blessed place, and our freedom was bought at a terrible price.

Second, will you rededicate yourself to sharing the good news of Jesus so that as many people as possible will be rejoicing on resurrection day? As you think about cemeteries, realize that God has the last word: “Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt” (Daniel 12:2). All Christian warriors will awake soon to new life.

Build a stronger global community of faith!

We want to encourage and equip you to be a force for unity among the global church by sending you a copy of Pastor Jeske’s new book, Grace for Every Race.

You’ll learn what the Bible says believers in Christ can do to overcome racial divides and build an even stronger community of faith. And you’ll get practical advice to help you see more clearly, think more clearly, and listen better as you interact with people of other cultures.

Grace for Every Race is our thank-you for your donation to help take the timeless truths of God’s Word to more people. So please request your copy when you give today. We’re grateful for you support!
