Living Hope | 1 Peter 1:8-9 | Devotional
1 Peter 1:8-9 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
These are the words of Peter, an eyewitnessÖa man who walked with Jesus. Now he could tell you some stories. Stories about Jesus healing the sick (his mother-in-law for one), calming the sea, walking on water, feeding the 5000, even raising the dead. He could tell you how he stood at a distance and watched Jesus die, watched them take his body down and put it in a tomb. He could also tell you that he found the tomb empty and Jesus alive! His readers had not seen Jesus but he had. And the one who saw it all handed off the faith. We are in the same boat as the recipients of this letter. Someone handed off the faith to us. We have not seen Jesus, but we have seen the trail of transformed lives he has left behind. So we love him and trust him even though we havenít seen him.
I donít know what you are experiencing today but I know this. If you have trusted in Jesus alone as the only way to have relationship with the living God, you are receiving the ìgoal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.î That truth produces ìinexpressible and glorious joyî whether you are having a ìmountain topî or ìvalleyî kind of day.
Father, thank you for love and faithóabsent from sight but present through your Spirit. In Jesusí name. Amen.
