The Power of Unity | Psalm 133
A song of ascents. Of David.
How good and pleasant it is when Godís people live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaronís beard, down on the collar of his robe. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the LORD bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.
Unity. It's a powerful word. It's an even more powerful experience. When families live in harmony life is good. Encouragement is rich when friends get along. When a team is moving in the same direction at the same time for the same reasons some great things are going to happen.
Todayís psalm paints a vivid picture of unity. First, David describes anointing oil running down the priestís head, shoulders, and onto his breastplate with the names of the twelve tribes. The oil covering the tribes was a distinctive picture of unity. Second, David likened unity to the heavy dew on Mt. Hermon, symbolizing a nourishing and energizing flow of fresh water.
God placed us on this earth to do together what we could never do alone. We need each other to accomplish the things God put us on this earth to do. Letís move forward...together.
Father, help me live in unity as far as it depends on me. Help me to forgive others, encourage others, and move on from past hurts. Help me move forward in the strength of unity. In Jesus' name. Amen.
