A Morning Prayer of Trust in God

31 Yahweh, how my adversaries have increased!
Many are those who rise up against me. 2 Many there are who say of my soul,
“There is no help for him in God.” Selah. 3 But you, Yahweh, are a shield around me,
my glory, and the one who lifts up my head.

4 I cry to Yahweh with my voice,
and he answers me out of his holy hill. Selah. 5 I laid myself down and slept.
I awakened; for Yahweh sustains me. 6 I will not be afraid of tens of thousands of people
who have set themselves against me on every side. 7 Arise, Yahweh!
Save me, my God!
For you have struck all of my enemies on the cheek bone.
You have broken the teeth of the wicked. 8 Salvation belongs to Yahweh.
Your blessing be on your people. Selah.

An Evening Prayer of Trust in God

41 Answer me when I call, God of my righteousness.
Give me relief from my distress.
Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer. 2 You sons of men, how long shall my glory be turned into dishonor?
Will you love vanity, and seek after falsehood? Selah. 3 But know that Yahweh has set apart for himself him who is godly:
Yahweh will hear when I call to him. 4 Stand in awe, and don’t sin.
Search your own heart on your bed, and be still. Selah. 5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness.
Put your trust in Yahweh.

6 Many say, “Who will show us any good?”
Yahweh, let the light of your face shine on us. 7 You have put gladness in my heart,
more than when their grain and their new wine are increased. 8 In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep,
for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety.

A Prayer for Help against the Wicked

121 Help, Yahweh; for the godly man ceases.
For the faithful fail from among the children of men. 2 Everyone lies to his neighbor.
They speak with flattering lips, and with a double heart. 3 May Yahweh cut off all flattering lips,
and the tongue that boasts, 4 who have said, “With our tongue we will prevail.
Our lips are our own.
Who is lord over us?” 5 “Because of the oppression of the weak and because of the groaning of the needy,
I will now arise,” says Yahweh;
“I will set him in safety from those who malign him.” 6 The words of Yahweh are flawless words,
as silver refined in a clay furnace, purified seven times. 7 You will keep them, Yahweh.
You will preserve them from this generation forever. 8 The wicked walk on every side,
when what is vile is exalted among the sons of men.

A Prayer for Help in Trouble

131 How long, Yahweh?
Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me? 2 How long shall I take counsel in my soul,
having sorrow in my heart every day?
How long shall my enemy triumph over me? 3 Behold, and answer me, Yahweh, my God.
Give light to my eyes, lest I sleep in death; 4 Lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed against him;”
Lest my adversaries rejoice when I fall. 5 But I trust in your loving kindness.
My heart rejoices in your salvation. 6 I will sing to Yahweh,
because he has been good to me.

A Prayer for Help and Praise for Its Answer

281 To you, Yahweh, I call.
My rock, don’t be deaf to me;
lest, if you are silent to me,
I would become like those who go down into the pit. 2 Hear the voice of my petitions, when I cry to you,
when I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place. 3 Don’t draw me away with the wicked,
with the workers of iniquity who speak peace with their neighbors,
but mischief is in their hearts. 4 Give them according to their work, and according to the wickedness of their doings.
Give them according to the operation of their hands.
Bring back on them what they deserve. 5 Because they don’t respect the works of Yahweh,
nor the operation of his hands,
he will break them down and not build them up.

6 Blessed be Yahweh,
because he has heard the voice of my petitions. 7 Yahweh is my strength and my shield.
My heart has trusted in him, and I am helped.
Therefore my heart greatly rejoices.
With my song I will thank him. 8 Yahweh is their strength.
He is a stronghold of salvation to his anointed. 9 Save your people,
and bless your inheritance.
Be their shepherd also,
and bear them up forever.

A Prayer for the Destruction of the Deceitful

551 Listen to my prayer, God.
Don’t hide yourself from my supplication. 2 Attend to me, and answer me.
I am restless in my complaint, and moan, 3 Because of the voice of the enemy,
Because of the oppression of the wicked.
For they bring suffering on me.
In anger they hold a grudge against me. 4 My heart is severely pained within me.
The terrors of death have fallen on me. 5 Fearfulness and trembling have come on me.
Horror has overwhelmed me. 6 I said, “Oh that I had wings like a dove!
Then I would fly away, and be at rest. 7 Behold, then I would wander far off.
I would lodge in the wilderness.” Selah. 8 “I would hurry to a shelter from the stormy wind and storm.”

9 Confuse them, Lord, and confound their language,
for I have seen violence and strife in the city. 10 Day and night they prowl around on its walls.
Malice and abuse are also within her. 11 Destructive forces are within her.
Threats and lies don’t depart from her streets. 12 For it was not an enemy who insulted me,
then I could have endured it.
Neither was it he who hated me who raised himself up against me,
then I would have hid myself from him. 13 But it was you, a man like me,
my companion, and my familiar friend. 14 We took sweet fellowship together.
We walked in God’s house with company. 15 Let death come suddenly on them.
Let them go down alive into Sheol.
For wickedness is in their dwelling, in the midst of them.

16 As for me, I will call on God.
Yahweh will save me. 17 Evening, morning, and at noon, I will cry out in distress.
He will hear my voice. 18 He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me,
although there are many who oppose me. 19 God, who is enthroned forever,
will hear, and answer them. Selah.

They never change,
who don’t fear God. 20 He raises his hands against his friends.
He has violated his covenant. 21 His mouth was smooth as butter,
but his heart was war.
His words were softer than oil,
yet they were drawn swords. 22 Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you.
He will never allow the righteous to be moved. 23 But you, God, will bring them down into the pit of destruction.
Bloodthirsty and deceitful men shall not live out half their days,
but I will trust in you.
