The Refuge of the Upright

111 In Yahweh, I take refuge.
How can you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your mountain!” 2 For, behold, the wicked bend their bows.
They set their arrows on the strings,
that they may shoot in darkness at the upright in heart. 3 If the foundations are destroyed,
what can the righteous do?

4 Yahweh is in his holy temple.
Yahweh is on his throne in heaven.
His eyes observe.
His eyes examine the children of men. 5 Yahweh examines the righteous,
but the wicked and him who loves violence his soul hates. 6 On the wicked he will rain blazing coals;
fire, sulfur, and scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup. 7 For Yahweh is righteous.
He loves righteousness.
The upright shall see his face.

A Morning Prayer of Trust in God

31 Yahweh, how my adversaries have increased!
Many are those who rise up against me. 2 Many there are who say of my soul,
“There is no help for him in God.” Selah. 3 But you, Yahweh, are a shield around me,
my glory, and the one who lifts up my head.

4 I cry to Yahweh with my voice,
and he answers me out of his holy hill. Selah. 5 I laid myself down and slept.
I awakened; for Yahweh sustains me. 6 I will not be afraid of tens of thousands of people
who have set themselves against me on every side. 7 Arise, Yahweh!
Save me, my God!
For you have struck all of my enemies on the cheek bone.
You have broken the teeth of the wicked. 8 Salvation belongs to Yahweh.
Your blessing be on your people. Selah.
