God Is Worthy of Your Trust

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”  Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV)

One day as I was meditating on Proverbs 3:5-6, I had an “aha” moment.  Have you ever had one of those?  As I pondered about trusting in the Lord with all my heart, I realized I had an incredibly unrealistic expectation that I needed to know all the answers.  How crazy is that?!  I can’t tell you what a relief it was to repent and let go of that expectation.

When I trust in Him, I don’t need to lean on my own understanding.  How freeing.  He alone is worthy of my trust because He is sovereign.  He is in control and He doesn’t make mistakes.  Realizing this truth is critical because the older I get the harder it is to live with cerebral palsy.  CP is not necessarily a degenerative condition but the reality is for all of us, as our bodies’ age, we can’t do what we used to be able to do.  In a real sense, the CP is a wild card.  I don’t know how my gait pattern for walking over the years will affect my joints for example.  I do know I’m starting to see the ill effects of my upper body over compensating for what my lower body can’t do.

I’m at the point in my life where I make plans for the week or the next day, go to sleep and then get up the next morning and say, “Okay, Lord, this is Your day.  You know I’ve made plans but I’m yielding the day to you.  You know what I can do physically.  Help me know what to say yes to, and what to say no to.”

I’ve become much more of a student of my body and how to wisely manage energy and pace.  I also have learned how to ask for help from friends, neighbors, coworkers, and sometimes strangers.  Living with CP has forced me to think differently.  I think big picture and detail at the same time.  Logistically, that kind of thinking has infiltrated into other areas of my life.  As I’ve learned how to trust in Him more fully, I’m learning how to yield to Him knowing that He is worthy of my trust as He directs my steps.

  • Take a look at your day so far.
  • Step back and ask yourself, am I trusting God here or just checking stuff off a list?

Most gracious Heavenly Father.  Thank You for Your word.  Thank You that in Your son, Jesus, and through the power of the Holy Spirit, I can trust in You with all my heart.  Thank You that You are worthy of my trust.  Mold and make me into Your woman today.  In Jesus name, Amen.
