Not Just a Mom

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
What do you do all day?
Don’t you have to work?
You’re just a mom.
As a stay at home mom, has anyone said these words to you? Perhaps you have felt less valued or worthy as a woman or that God has forgotten you amongst dirty dishes and piles of laundry.
But God has a plan, both for you and your children. Jeremiah 29:11 says,
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Being a stay at home mom can be a challenge, but the work that you are doing is some of the noblest of all. You are not just a mom; you are the key that unlocks your child’s future. Every diaper changed and every story read is an opportunity to enact your plan to give your children hope and a future.
You may feel like you are being drained physically, mentally and emotionally, but this is just a phase. Soon your children will grow up and need you less and less. Those baby food filled kisses and fingerprints on the windows will soon disappear.
Your memories of caring for your children will be what you hold on to when they walk out the door of their childhood and into adulthood, so cherish these moments; they are precious.
What you do matters.
The influence you have on your children matters more than you know. When you come to the end of your life, it will not be the number of cars in your garage or the degrees on your wall but what will matter most tomorrow is the difference you make in the life of your child today.
Make every moment count.
In the midst of your weakness, come to your heavenly Father. He knows what you and your children need. Come to Him with your hopes and dreams for your children and He will fill you and your child’s lives to overflowing.
Lord, help us cherish the moments we have to make a difference in the lives of our children. Amen.
