Luther Burgess Bridgers (1884 to 1948)
Despite a Tragic Loss, He Kept Singing
Luther Burgess Bridgers was born in Margaretsville, North Carolina. In 1910, the tragic loss of his wife and three sons in a fire became the basis of a verse of his hymn "He Keeps Me Singing." The words are: "though sometimes he leads through waters deep, trials fall across the way, though sometimes the path seems rough and steep, see his footprints all the way."
