Londonderry Hymn's Writer

Birth of Henry L. Gilmour in Londonderry, Ireland. Migrating to the U.S., he fought in the Civil War, was captured, and spent time in a Confederate prison. After the war, he became a dentist but labored in the Methodist church. Among his contributions was direction of the Pitman Grove Camp Meeting choir for many years. He authored and composed the music for many Gospel hymns, but is best remembered as the author of "The Haven of Rest," "When Israel Out of Bondage Came," and "He Brought Me Out of the Miry Clay."
