Isaiah 13:6-9

Wail, for the day of the LORD is near! It will come as destruction from the Almighty. Therefore all hands will fall limp, and every man’s heart will melt. They will be terrified, pains and anguish will take hold of them; they will writhe like a woman in labor, they will look at one another in astonishment, their faces aflame. Behold, the day of the LORD is coming, cruel, with fury and burning anger, to make the land a desolation; and He will exterminate its sinners from it.

God is very angry about sin!

God has offered us mercy when we deserved judgment; He gives us grace when we are in a hopeless place; His lovingkindness toward us as His children is constant. And it is right for God’s loving nature to be our focus.

But sometimes this focus causes us to think of God as only gentle, and He’s not. Today God wants you to know that the anger of God against the sinful rebellion of people is enormous. It’s building up as if it’s being held back by the dam of God’s grace. But the day will come when all of God’s anger is released on those whose lives are against Him.

For us who are believers, God has already released His righteous anger on Jesus Christ who took our sins on Himself. We won’t face His anger. But it will be terrible for those without Christ.
