God’s King has come to “preach the good news of the kingdom of God” (v 43). And as He does so, we’re getting a glimpse, a foretaste, of what that kingdom looks like.

Kingdom glimpsed
Read Luke 4:31

• What does the King do in:
   • v 31-32?
   • v 33-35, 41?
   • v 38-40?
• What do we learn about who Jesus is?
• What reactions are there to Jesus bringing His kingdom to earth?
..........................................
TIME OUT… Read James 2:18.
• What do demons know?
It’s possible to know the truth about Jesus’ identity—and yet still to resist Him. The demons know exactly who Jesus is,
and they hate it.
• How does James say someone with true faith is different?
..........................................

• Look again at what Jesus is doing. What realities of this life aren’t part of Jesus’ kingdom?
• Which aspect of this glimpse of the kingdom is particularly good news for you?

..........................................
TIME OUT… Read Revelation 21:3.
The kingdom of God was glimpsed 2,000 years ago, as Jesus walked on earth. It will come in all its fullness in the future, as Jesus returns to earth. What the crowds in Israel saw was truly amazing, and yet merely a shadow of what God’s people can look forward to. What a King we have!
..........................................

Kingdom spread
Read Luke 4:42

• What do the people want Jesus to do (v 42)?
• What does He do instead, and why (v 43-44)?

Jesus has shown the kingdom. But He has been sent to speak about the kingdom. He has come to proclaim that He is its King; and to invite people to come in, become His subjects, and look forward to perfect life with Him. That’s “good news” (v 44)!

..........................................
APPLY
• Do you appreciate what good news it is to be part of Christ’s kingdom?
• How should being a subject of this kingdom make a difference to:
   • your emotions?
   • your decisions?
   • your relationships?
..........................................
