Give the Word More Attention
By Twyla Betha

My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh
-Proverbs 4:20-22

Years ago, I was sitting in church and this passage in Proverbs 4 was read: “Attend to my words.” I never forgot that day, and even now Proverbs 4 is one of my favorite passages to help keep me on track.

From the time I was born again, I have always wanted the life God had for me. I’ve wanted my life to consist of everything He dreamed of, and not necessarily everything I dreamed of. And what I’ve learned is that if you and I want the life that God has for us, then there’s a simple truth that we must get ahold of and remember: Give the Word of God more attention!

We have so many things to distract us from the Word of God. We have TV, cell phones, computers, and all types of things that come our way in just one day! But the Word of God tells us not to let the Word depart from our eyes (Prov. 4:21).

Today, I want to challenge you to give the Word more attention than you give it now. That may mean watching less TV. It may mean taking a break from Facebook. I understand that many have grown accustomed to letting other things have their attention. But now is the time, as we expect more of God and the life He always meant for us to live to focus more on the word than ever before.  Today let’s do exactly what His Word says: “Give the Word more attention”!
