Set On Self Destruct

Today's Scripture

"Sinners are trapped and caught by their own evil deeds. They get lost and die because of their foolishness and lack of self-control." Proverbs 5:22-23 CEV

"God's Spirit doesn't make cowards out of us. The Spirit gives us power, love, and self-control." 2 Timothy 1:7 CEV

Thoughts for Today

Some people seem to be more self-destructive than others. For reasons they may not fully understand, they continue in spirals of negative behaviors that destroy them. This self-inflicted tragedy, especially when it involves famous people, becomes overnight news. Hardly a week goes by that we do not hear of someone who has destroyed his or her life or reputation.

Many self-destructive people lose self-control. They just cannot manage their thoughts, attitudes, behaviors or emotions, and their life begins to fall apart.

The reasons behind this type of tragedy are many, but most people in this condition have some things in common. They become increasingly self-centered and reject God's truth and authority in their lives. They begin to feel like victims and reject anyone who tells them the truth. Unaware of what is happening, they are drawn deeper into a lifestyle that is killing them.

Consider this …

Have you lost self-control in some area of your life? Or perhaps someone you care about is following a path to self-destruction. Be encouraged … There is hope! In 2 Timothy 1:7, we learn that the Holy Spirit will give us power, love and self-control

If you or your loved one will seek God's forgiveness and truly desire to do things his way, the Holy Spirit will give you power to make right choices, love for God and for other people, and the self-control to turn from the negative behaviors that have ensnared you.

Prayer

Father, forgive me for my lack of self-control in this area of my life. I ask for the power to walk the path you have for me, for more love for you and others, and the self-control to turn from these negative behaviors and attitudes. In Jesus' name ……

Completely Free! A Group Study of Romans 1-8 by Dan Strickland. Everyone struggles from time-to-time, but we can have confidence that in Christ we are completely free from sin's slavery, from condemnation, and from fear of failure. This group study of Romans 1-8 and 12 helps Christians break out of the dull routine of a stagnant spiritual life. Applying the truths found in Romans can transform any believer into a person eager to follow God's will. This study can also serve as a powerful evangelistic tool by explaining the message of salvation as presented in Romans. Suggested uses include home Bible studies, cell groups, Sunday school classes, support groups and personal enrichment.
