Just When You Think It Cannot Get Worse!

“There was a great famine in Samaria; and behold, they besieged it, until a donkey’s head was sold for eighty shekels of silver, and a fourth of a kab of dove’s dung for five shekels of silver.” - (2 Kings 6:25,)

It is indeed a great famine when a donkey’s head sells for 80 shekels of silver and “a fourth of a kab of dove’s dung” costs five shekels on the open market!  A kab is roughly equal to two quarts, thus making your dove dung purchase come to a cup or so of this unique seasoning!

We may think we have it bad, there is always something that can get worse or someone who has it worse than we do.  In fact, most of our woes become petty when we begin to pour our lives into others and see what they have to endure.  On a world-wide scale, American’s have very little insight into pain and suffering, by the grace of God.

Even the worst of our woes are, according to Paul, “light and momentary afflictions” that are “producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison” (2 Corinthians 4:17).  With this perspective, we are able to “glory in our weaknesses” for the surpassing glory of God’s grace.

Today, I pray you may endure your woes.  And, if you are having donkey head spiced with dove dung for supper—don’t call me!!

In His Grace,
