A New Administration

He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth. In Him(Ephesians 1:9–10, NASB95)

The fullness of times is the time in which the Messiah would come, give His life for an ransom, and rise from the dead to offer eternal life.  Such a monumental event in our holy history would require “a new administration,” one that is suitable for times in which the propitiation of sins has been completed in Jesus Christ. Could one continue to seek favor from God in the Law when Christ has come? Now that Christ has been born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died a sinners death, and been raised to victorious life, all the rules have changed!

The Greek word translated “administration” literally means a new set of rules, or “under new management.” When one “rightly divides the Word of truth” he will recognize that the “house rule” since the fullness of time is not the same as it was before. This is a basic standard of proper Biblical interpretation: recognizing which administration a passage is in, and being careful not to make application for another administration.

In His Grace;
