1 John 1:8-9

If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

When you truly understand God’s grace, you’ll be completely honest with God about your sin and need for His forgiveness!

How foolish to pretend to anyone that we don’t need God’s forgiveness or that our goodness might be enough to make God forget about the fact that we’ve broken His laws so many times and done what we knew in our consciences was wrong.

God is holy and can’t have a relationship with the sinful me. He is also just and cannot overlook my sin. But if I acknowledge my helpless situation and turn to Him for help, He’ll do for me what I cannot do for myself. Jesus will take my guilt on Himself and will give me His perfect righteousness. That great exchange makes me acceptable to God and opens up the door for a wonderful relationship with Him.

But first I have to put my pride aside and come to God with no pretence of self-righteousness. I have to acknowledge that God’s view of me is the right one. Then ask for forgiveness with complete confidence that He will be true to His promise and give it freely to me. Have you experienced that?
