Colossians 3:16-17

Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.

What makes the church work? “Do all in the name of the Lord Jesus”!

What does it mean to do something in the name of Jesus? It means that you are acting on His behalf, in His best interests.

“Whatever you do in word or deed.” When you speak to someone in your church, think, “How does Jesus want to speak to this person?” Ask the Lord, “What do you want to say to this person through me?” If you want to quickly sense what Christ would want to say in any given situation, then “let the word of Christ richly dwell within you” by soaking yourself in Bible teaching and spiritual music.

When you’re deciding what to do in a situation at church, ask the Lord, “What do you want to do? How much do you want to give of your money which you’ve entrusted to me? How do you want to respond to this person?”

As you begin to do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, you will begin to find church a much better place!
