Matthew 4:18-20

Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men”. Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.

Your purpose in life is not just to walk close to God, but to live for Him!

Jesus’ call of the disciples did not end with “Follow Me”. Following Him was essential; it was the first thing; without it the rest would be meaningless. But following Jesus was just the first part of the story. Jesus knew that if the disciples walked close to Him they would take up the purpose that brought Him into our world.

What purpose was that? “The Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10). Their time with Jesus would change them. They’d become fishers of men!

No longer would they be living simply to better their lot in life through their fishing business. Their lives would now be focused outward—on the people all around them who God wanted to reach.

What’s the focus of your life? Have you gotten close enough to Jesus yet to catch His heart for this world and make His purpose your own? Take time now to ask Jesus about His purpose for you today.
