Community: How Does It Work? | Romans 14:13
Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother's way.
Somewhere I read a story about C. H. Spurgeon’s wife. She kept chickens in the back yard of the church parsonage, and sold the eggs. The Spurgeon’s were well provided for by the church, and many criticized Mrs. Spurgeon. What they didn’t know was that all the profits from the eggs went to a local orphanage. It was her way of working for something in order to give it away.
How many times do we pass judgment on others without knowing the whole story? How many times do we judge an action without seeing the heart?
Believers would do well to take a deep breath and give each other the benefit of the doubt. Community is messy enough as it is. We need to show each other grace—the same grace we have received from God.
Father, forgive me for passing judgment on a brother or sister in Christ. Help me to show the same grace to others that I want them to show me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
