Community: Why Me? | Ecclesiastes 4:12
Ecclesiastes 4:12 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
The essence of community is found in God; the expression of community is found in man. God looked at Adam, standing by himself, and said, “It is not good for a man to be alone.” Man was created to need the help of a partner.
But two people in partnership together is not the complete answer to community. Marriages fail. Business partnerships dissolve. Championship teams split apart when free agent players go after more money. People will always make a mess of any partnership. But there is a Game-Changer.
The foundation, power, and continuity of Christian community is Jesus. Believers are in community because of him. We carry out community in him. And we continue in community, even when it gets messy, through him. Community is about Jesus. He brings us together, holds us together, and carries us home. He is the “third strand;” the enduring strength to community.
Heavenly Father, thank you for bringing us together in Jesus. Thank you for his great sacrifice that makes us your sons and daughters. Thank you for his work within us that holds us together in community. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
