Turn My Eyes from Worthless Things | Psalm 119:33-40

Today's Passage: Psalm 119:33-40
Key Verses: Psalm 119:36-37

Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain. Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word.

The heart naturally beats for itself. It looks out for number one. We see life through custom fitted lenses tinted with our desires, needs and personalities. Our view of life is evaluated by how it impacts us. Thatís why today's prayer is so important.

Godís Word checks my heart. It shows me the right path. It calls me out when I take a detour. It shows me how to get on the road. It instructs me how to stay on the journey that God has for me.

There are many distractions that call out. They seem attractive from a distance; some are still attractive up close. However, these distractions are all off the road. They cause me to stop listening to God and feed my own desires. They turn my eyes toward worthless things. That's why I have to read Godís Word regularly. It keeps me headed in a direction that honors God.

Father, please turn my heart to your Word. Please turn my eyes away from worthless things. Please preserve my life according to your Word. In Jesus' name. Amen.
