I AM ... The True Vine | John 15:2

John 15:2
He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.

Fruit on the branch is evidence of life in the branch. And life in the branch is evidence of connection to the vine. Where there is no fruit, there is no life.

Jesus made it clear that not everyone who professes to be a believer actually is a believer. There have always been and always will be those who “profess” instead of “possess.” Many talk the talk, but their hearts are far from God. Jesus said, “By their fruit you will recognize them” (Matthew 7:16).

Fruit demonstrates life. So, here, the question gets very personal. Is your life producing spiritual fruit? Is there demonstration that you are connected to the Life-Giving Vine? Put another way, if you were on trial as a follower of Jesus, would there be enough evidence to convict you? Well…would there?

Father, thank you for the life that flows through us, and the spiritual fruit produced in us when we are connected to the True Vine! Help us to be honest as we evaluate the fruit in our lives. In Jesus name. Amen.
