CONFLICT – OVERCOME EVIL WITH GOOD
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:21
Colleague Ron Boyd-MacMillan shares an interesting incident from his home country of Scotland:
I was walking my dog when I saw a black BMW. It was the local drug dealer, who wanted to tempt people in the neighborhood to use drugs. With a group of Christians, we met together to discuss the matter and we asked each other, “What can we do about this?” We wanted to do more than just pray.
We decided that every time we saw the car, we would phone one another and then a number of us would go outside. We laid our hands on the car and began to pray. Of course the man opened the window. He wanted to know what we were doing. “We're praying for your salvation and that you will stop drug dealing. And we’re not going to stop before you do so.” He drove off.
Did everyone approve of what we were doing? To start with, the police weren’t happy, but later they came round when they saw that what we were doing was good. We were criticized by one church, who accused us of fundamentalism. One day when we were at the house of one of the former drug addicts for a prayer meeting, a bullet shot through the window. We were extremely shocked. But it was also an awakening. We realized that they would not do that if we weren’t making a difference. Find the evil and threaten it. Then you will get a response. You are then not only working for the Persecuted Church, but you are also part of it.
Today I will respond to the evil around me and overcome it with good.
Lord, I need Your power and strength to effectively overcome the evil I experience.
